1. INTRODUCTION
There is no need to use a sophisticated drawing package to produce the
Nassi-Shneiderman and UML Activity diagrams required for COMP101
assignmnets. The simple drawing capability that comes with Microsoft Word will
suffice. This documnet
very briefly describes how this can best be achieved.
2. USING WORD'S DRAWING FACILITIES
To prepare a diagram in Word:
- To include the drawing
tool bar at the base of your Word window (if it is not already there) go to the
Word menu bar and select View, Toolbar and Drawing.
As a result, a sequence of drawing icons will appear on the tool bar at the base of
your Word window.
- Rectangles can be produced by selecting the Rectangle button; and lines
and arrows by selecting the Line or Arrow buttons respectively.
- To render a shape (such as a rectangle) to be "see through": (i) select
the desired shape, (ii) select the Fill Color button. and (iii) select
No Fill.
- Text can be included by selectiong the Text Box drawing tool bar
item. To get rid of the border surrounding a text box
highlight the border so that it is dotted (not diagonally dashed) by clicking on
the boarder, select format from the menu bar and then Text Box
... and then edit the resulting "Format Text Box" window.
