In the celcius temperature scale was proposed by the Swedish astronomer Celsius. On this scale the fundamental interval between the fixed points where pure ice melts and water boils --- the ice and steam points respectively --- is divided into 100 equal degrees "Centigrade". The ice point being fixed at 0 Degrees and the steam point a 100 Degrees. Anders Celsius (1701-44) --- Swedish astronomer and mathematician. Wrote numerous and important works on astronomy, but is best remembered as the inventor of the centigrade thermometer. |
