Louise Dennis: Teaching Portfolio

Access

My role in access issues has been fairly minimal.

Careers' Day

I was involved in running a Careers' Event at Imperial. This was a joint event by the BCS SGAI (British Computer Society Special Interest Group in Artificial Intelligence) and the SSAISB (Society for the Study of Artificial Intelligence and the Simulation of Behaviour). The event was aimed at School Careers' Advisors with the intention of helping them with sixth formers who expressed an interest in Artificial Intelligence. I was going to present a talk on resources although in the event I was unable to attend because my daughter was ill. I had prepared an information sheet which the advisors could take away with them.

GDST Speaker

The GDST is the Girls' Day School Trust. I went to a GDST school and through the old girls' network have been placed on a list of people prepared to go to Schools and talk about University and studying Computer Science. In practice, I have never been approached to do this.

While working through the GDST clearly addresses the issue of Women in Computer Science it does not address the issues of attracting applicants from low-income backgrounds.
